Check Out This Pumpkin Seeds Counting Freebie

Math skills don’t just happen. Most kids need lots and lots of repetition to develop fluency with basic math skills, including reading number words, counting, and number recognition. This free pumpkin counting activity reviews counting, number recognition, and number words. It’s perfect for fall or Halloween.

Free Pumpkin Seeds Counting Activity For Fall Or Halloween

If your students count down the days until Halloween, why not use that excitement to engage them in learning math?

This free pumpkin counting activity reviews counting, number recognition, and number words. I’ve used it with several groups of students as a center activity or for individual review work.

You can add real pumpkin seeds as a manipulative or use the picture cards. You can also combine both and have your students place one seed onto each picture as they count.

This center covers numbers from one to twenty. However, you can differentiate it by giving kids only some numbers if you have students who aren’t ready for all of the cards.

You could also have them just use the pumpkin numbers and count real seeds into plastic cups.

Small Group Pumpkin Seed Counting Activity

Grab some orange paper plates. Add a brown stem and a green leaf to make pumpkin plates. Next, give each student a handful of pumpkin seeds. Then, call out a number and have your students place that many seeds on their pumpkin. Check their counting and repeat with a new number. This would be a great concrete activity to do before moving on to the matching card activity.

Book Suggestion

I love finding books that complement math activities. (Note: This blog post contains affiliate links.)

How Many Seeds in a Pumpkin is the perfect book to use with this activity. Read the book, and then let the kids do this fun pumpkin-themed center activity.
