Free Back to School Contraction Matching Game
Most kids naturally use contractions daily in their speech, but learning to read and write contractions can take a little more practice. A game is a great way to help your students practice contractions. I’m sharing a free contraction matching game today, so don’t forget to grab a copy.
Matching games have always been a favorite in both my home and my classroom. I love these activities because they are so simple. Once the kids have played it a time or two, they know exactly what to do, even when the material in the game changes. I also really love that matching activities work as solo activities that early finishers can do independently or as a partner game during center time.
To play it as a partner game, the kids lay the cards out upside down and then play it like you would play any memory or concentration-style game. Often, I introduce new games as a center station and then move the older ones into an early finisher bin. That way, students who need an independent activity can easily access their favorite activities.
The freebie for today is a back-to-school contraction matching game. (You can use it any time of year, though.) The game is geared toward first graders who have been introduced to contractions or second graders reviewing them. I’ve also included an optional worksheet for accountability or an easy grade if needed. hope you and your kiddos can enjoy this activity. You can download your freebie here.
