Educational Websites And Distance Learning Resources

Have you been spending a lot of time combing through Google searches trying to find quality educational websites? Do you need help finding distance learning resources?

Educational websites are great sources for educational activities whether you're in a classroom or teaching online in a distance learning setting. This collection includes some of the best learning sites for elementary age kids. It covers reading, math, language arts, science, social studies, art, music, physical education, & Spanish. You'll find lesson ideas for teachers and activities for students like videos & fun games. Don't forget the free list of 120 educational sites & tools.

Many teachers (and parents) are spending a lot of time right now looking for tools to help their students learn from home. Combing through endless websites can be tedious. It can be overwhelming, but there are some really great resources out there.

 I’ve recently spent some time searching through hundreds of websites. I’ve categorized them and I thought I’d share some of my favorites for each subject with you.

In this post, you’ll find 3 of my favorite sites for each subject. Plus, there’s a free PDF with many more websites organized into academic subject areas that you can get at the end of the blogpost.

Educational Websites for Reading

  • Storytime from Space – Do you know any kids who are obsessed with space? This website will let them listen to an astronaut read picture books aloud. They’ll be able to see both the astronaut in space and the book pages.
  • Storytime with Ryan & Craig – Ryan and Craig have created dozens of videos of themselves reading popular children’s books. I love the variety of stories they’ve shared.
  • Reading Eggs– This is one of my go-to tools for teaching reading. I’ve used it with both of my own kids as well as with my classroom students. I love that it progresses through levels and includes audio.

Language Arts Resources

  • Typing Club – Distance learning is a lot easier if students can type. This is a great website to teach them how.
  • Storyboard That – This website offers plenty of digital backgrounds and illustrations to inspire creative writing.
  • Read Write Think Interactives – Over the years, I’ve used many of the interactives on this site to help students practice language arts. There are tools for creating Venn Diagrams, plot maps, and much more.

Educational Websites for Math

  • Origo at Home – Math lessons are broken down by grade level into weekly and daily activities. There are math stories, printables, parent activities, and videos.
  • Prodigy – Prodigy is a free math platform. It’s game-based and covers skills from first through eighth grade.
  • Math Playground – This free site offers a variety of online math games organized by skills.

Science Resources

  • Crash Course for Kids – These short videos cover a ton of science topics in a kid-friendly way. There are lots of visuals, bright colors, and interesting science facts.
  • California Science Center – You can find science videos, activity guides, and easy science experiments that use common household ingredients on this site.
  • Wow in the World Podcast – These high-interest podcasts by NPR cover lots of topics that will capture the interest of curious kids. You’ll find topics ranging from oobleck to penguins.

Educational Websites for Social Studies

  • Ben’s Guide to the U.S. Government – This site introduces kids to the U.S. government. It’s broken down by age and covers topics like the three branches, the election process, symbols, and historical documents.
  • Utah Education Network – This curated list contains excellent tools for teaching about maps, geography, the environment, civics, and history.
  • United States Mint – Kid-friendly games make learning about coins, money, and U.S. history fun.

Spanish Resources

  • Super Simple Español – These videos pair immersive Spanish with clear illustrations and plenty of repetition.
  • Salsa Georgia – Introduce Spanish with video lessons and interactive online games through Salsa Georgia.
  • Duolingo – Duolingo is an excellent tool for independently practicing Spanish.

Art, Music, & P.E.

  • Deep Space Sparkle – These art lessons combine a video lesson, a supply list, and a set of step by step instructions. They’re easy to follow and lots of fun.
  • Instruments of the Orchestra – This website introduces kids to the various instruments of the orchestra.
  • Coach Wood’s P.E. Class – These lively videos will get kids up and moving with a P.E. class that can be done at home.
